In the fall of 2022, GHS Carpentry and ProStart classes collaborated on a garlic planter box project. Garlic planted a year ago has now been harvested. ProStart will be using the harvested garlic throughout the school year.

Please be aware that it appears that our state is currently experiencing an increase of Covid-related cases. As a result, we have received the following information from the State Department of Education:
"When student or staff tests positive for COVID-19:
» Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19, should stay home for at least 5 days and isolate from others.
» Students are not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities while in isolation and potentially infectious.
» Day 0 is the first day of symptoms or day tested if asymptomatic.
» Students and staff may return to school if they:
› Stayed home and isolated for at least 5 full days
› Are fever free for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medications)
› Have symptoms that are improving
» It is recommended that a mask be worn days 6-10.
» Individuals who were severely ill or immunocompromised should stay home and isolate for 10 days."

Senior locker decorating-
We realize that senior week is a long time away, but some of you are early planners. So we want to get this information out early. With the installation of new lockers, we will NOT be using any tape on lockers. The tape leaves behind adhesive and sometimes damages the paint.
Locker decorations need to be made with magnets on them. You can buy magnet tape and magnet buttons that can be added to poster board. Below are a few examples of magnets and posters. Thank you for supporting the effort to take good care of our lockers.
Bearcat ESports is kicking off 2023-2024 and looking for new and returning members! A WV League survey is due by end of day, September 5. We are interested in hearing from our Grade 9-12 Bearcats about their participation in Fall and/or Winter Leagues and game title preferences. The potential game titles are posted on the cafeteria doors. Please add your name to the sheets on Tuesday; a reminder will be announced.
Fall pre-season will begin the week of September 18 with dates to be determined based on the selection of game titles made by the WV League. Fall season begins the week of October 2. Regular season runs for 6 weeks with 2-3 playoff weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday. Game queues are generally scheduled after school at 4:00.

This is a reminder that tomorrow, September 1, 2023, is a Curriculum Development Day for all Taylor County Schools Staff. Students do not attend. All staff, including staff at the central board of education office, will be attending mandatory trainings and may not be able to answer phone calls throughout the day. Dear Community Members, GHS is in need of 2 volunteers for our Local School Improvement Council (LSIC). The main purpose of our LSIC is to represent the voice of education stakeholders, including professional personnel, service personnel, parents, community members and students.
We have two open positions. If you are a community member who is not a parent of a student at GHS and are interested in getting involved, we need your help.
We meet a minimum of once per quarter.

The FBI CJIS Division will be hosting the 2023 FBI Teen Academy at the Clarksburg, WV, campus on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Teen Academy is a one-day hands-on program for current West Virginia High School Juniors and Seniors (2023-2024 school year). Teen Academy is a chance for youth to learn about the FBI and what a variety of career paths in the FBI would entail.
Selected students are offered insight into a number of topics and specialties, including the importance of making good choices when using online communication platforms, federal law violations the FBI investigates, requirements of all FBI applicants, and the FBI’s domestic and international roles. Students will also enjoy various hands-on experiences involving specialized areas of the FBI, such as our Evidence Response Team. After completing the class, students are more aware of challenges their communities face, better understand how the FBI serves their region, and are prepared to mentor their peers.
