Over the weekend, Taylor County School administrators were alerted of a school threat made toward Grafton High School. Law enforcement was immediately alerted, and is conducting an investigation. As a result, schools throughout the county will have an increased presence of law enforcement on Monday, February 13, 2023, and longer if deemed necessary. Grafton Police Department, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, the West Virginia State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are monitoring all aspects of this investigation. We believe there is no immediate concern for our schools and surrounding communities, and students should report for a normal day of instruction on Monday. Our primary concern is the safety of our children, and all efforts are underway to ensure school buildings and their surrounding campuses are protected. Updates will be provided as more information is available.

Outstanding Career and Technical Students at Grafton High School were honored today as the newest inductees into the National Technical Honor Society, the honor society for Career & Technical Education (CTE). Thirty-four students (22 juniors and 12 seniors) were inducted for membership based on their skill development and academic achievement in their Career & Technical courses. Thirty-one, two-year members were also recognized and received purple and white graduation cords and a two-year member lapel pin. Since 1984, NTHS has been the honor society for CTE, serving high schools, career centers, community & technical colleges, and universities. Recognizing over 50,000 new members annually, NTHS exists to advocate for and empower all students to pursue the technical and academic skills needed to build their careers and a skilled global workforce. From celebrating these students to awarding nearly $300,000 in scholarships each year, NTHS believes in empowering and supporting students. Join us on Tuesday evening, February 14, as we showcase our Career and Technical Programs! Students will provide a variety of demonstrations from 5:00-7:00 pm. Special guests will also be presenting valuable information. This is an ideal evening for current 8th grade students and their families to spend time exploring course options as they begin to think about their high school schedules. CTE programs not only teach students real-world knowledge and skills but can also lead to the attainment of industry-recognized credentials and link integrated programs of study with secondary and post-secondary education. #ThisIsCTE #CareerTechWV

Volunteers Needed - Be the change! GHS is excited to host Building Hope for the second year. The program is a full day with the freshman class. We need approximately 30 volunteers. Building Hope utilizes high energy activities to support students, staff and volunteers in catalyzing positive change in the culture of our school. Activities focus on how our behaviors impact others. The program does more than just teach that bullying is wrong. Building Hope sheds light on the root causes that lead to problematic behavior. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Shumaker at the school, 304-265-3046, or email, lrshumak@k12.wv.us. The program will be February 24th.
